How to Make Johnsonville Brats in the Air Fryer
STEP ONE: Air fry the brats. Place the brats onto the air fry tray. Set the air fryer to 360°F and let it preheat (takes about 2 minutes). Cook for 6 minutes. Flip and cook for an additional 6 minutes.
STEP TWO: Serve. Serve on brat buns with your favorite toppings.
Tips and Helpful Hints:
- Preheat your air fryer before cooking so they’ll cook more evenly and the outside won’t burn.
- If your air fryer doesn’t come with a basket, you can use aluminum foil to create a basket shape under the brats. This will help if your air fryer trays have large grates, or just to prevent drips for falling into the bottom of your air fryer. Use non-stick foil or give it a light spray first.
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer. Leave a little room around your brats. Cook the in batches if necessary.
- If the casings of the brats burst during cooking, don’t worry. They’re still delicious to eat.
How to Store Leftover Sausages
You can store leftovers in the fridge in airtight containers or bags for up to four days.
You can also store leftovers in the freezer. Wrap them tightly in plastic wrap then place them in a freezer bag. They’ll keep for up to four months.
To Reheat: There are a few ways to reheat sausages, depending on the method you used to cook them originally. Here are a few options:
- Oven or Air Fryer: Preheat your oven or air fryer to 350°F. Wrap the sausages in foil and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until heated through.
- Microwave: Cover them with a damp paper towel and microwave them on high for 30 seconds to 1 minute, or until hot.
- Stovetop: Add a touch of oil to a skillet and heat over medium-high heat. Add the sausages and cook until hot, turning throughout.
FAQs
Yes! You will need to add 2-3 extra minutes of cooking time per side but they should be fine. If they get too brown before the inside is hot, just lay a piece of foil over the top of them while they finish cooking.
The best way to tell if your sausages are fully reheated is to use a meat thermometer to check their internal temperature. To safely eat, you want your sausages to cook to an internatl temperature of 160 F. If you don’t have a meat thermometer, you can also cut into the sausage and check to make sure the center is very hot.
Yes! You can eat leftovers cold! In fact, I think they’re delicious cold, and great for a simple lunch. As long as your sausages were fully cooked, you can eat the leftover without reheating them.

6 minutes a side had them nicely browned but internal temp was 190. In my fryer anyway, 5 minutes per may have been better, but good advice. Thanks.
