Cooking a frozen pot pie in the air fryer is the best way to cook a frozen pot pie. While this method takes longer than heating in the microwave, it’s faster than the oven-baked method, and results in a super crispy crust that is worth the wait! Golden, flaky crust and a hot pot pie in just 20 minutes.

The air fryer makes cooking dinner quick and easy! Try Southwest egg rolls, frozen chicken nuggets, or even frozen steak. Easy and delicious meals your family will love.
What is Pot Pie?
Pot pie, specifically chicken or beef pot pie, are savory dishes that resemble dessert pies but have an unsweetened, buttery crust and a thickened filling full of vegetables and meat. This dish originates in England but is eaten all over the world and is known for being a hearty and filling dish, especially in the winter.
Pot pie is different than meat pie because meat pie generally does not contain vegetables. Pot pie can be served as a large pie or as small mini pies meant to be heated individually.
What’s in a Frozen Pot Pie?
Frozen pot pie contains a thickened chicken or beef gravy-like filling, and vegetables like potatoes, onion, peas, carrots, green beans, and corn. It also contains chicken chunks or shredded chicken. The pot pie filling is enveloped in a flaky pastry crust.
What goes well with pot pie?
Chicken pot pie can definitely be an entire meal on its own. It contains veggies, meat, and crust. But you can serve more food to your people with big appetites! Here are some ideas:
- More veggies: Roasted carrots, Brussels sprouts, or broccoli go nicely.
- Mashed potatoes: You can even break your pot pie overtop of your mashed potatoes for a yummy treat.
- Side salad: Any kind will do!
- Au gratin potatoes.
- Creamed corn.
- French fries
Ingredients
- 1 7.5 ounce frozen pot pie
How to Make
STEP ONE: Preheat the air fryer and prep the pot pie. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. Remove the pot pie from the box and cover it with tin foil.
STEP TWO: Air fry. Air fry for 15 minutes. Remove the tin foil and cook an additional 5 minutes to get a crisp golden crust.
Tips and Recipe Notes
- You might have to cook these in batches if your air fryer is small and you need more than one pot pie. If so, keep the first one covered with foil and it should stay warm while the second one cooks.
- If your pot pie crust is getting too brown but your filling isn’t quite done, just lay the tin foil back overtop of the pot pie. You don’t have to tuck it back down around the sides.
How to Store Pot Pie
If you don’t finish your pot pie, you can reheat it later. Store it in the fridge covered in plastic wrap or foil for 2-3 days.
I don’t recommend re-freezing these, since they’ve already been frozen once. Toss any leftovers.
To reheat, place them back in a 350°F preheated air fryer. Remove any plastic wrap, but you can leave on the foil so the crust doesn’t get overcooked. Reheat 3-5 minutes or until fully hot through. You can also use the microwave, but your crust might come out soggy. Microwave in 30-second bursts until hot.
FAQs
You can use the oven to cook pie, but it takes almost an hour. You can use the microwave, but it yields a soggier crust.
